With all the talk about flips with Dexter Wideman and potentially Christian Miller, I've heard the word used a couple of times since Gaffney wide receiver Shaq Davidson mentioned he's going to visit Auburn.

A long time Gamecock fan and commitment, Davidson could be, according to some Gaffney insiders, just going to enjoy the process of visiting and recruiting. And that may be true.

But...

What if Gus gets this kid down there and puts in his head that he (Shaq) could be Nick Marshall's heir? Malzahn is not a stupid man and if he wants Davidson bad enough, he could make that pitch and that could make a difference. So, is the trip to Auburn relevant? It could be.

As for Davidson as a Gamecock. I think Davidson is a phenom athlete. But I think he's going to need a redshirt year to develop physically. He's barely 6-0 tall and 165lbs. He needs another 25 or 30lbs on his frame.

I also don't see him as a WR at South Carolina. The brief period he played defense for the Indians, he showed incredible natural talent as a coverage guy; his basketball skills enhanced his ability to blanket and run in front of receivers and also gave him sharp instincts on where the ball was and when it was going to be there. I see him putting on weight and playing a solid corner position AFTER a redshirt year.

That's just my opinion.
