This 2021 prospect is perhaps one that has not made a ton of waves in scouting or recruiting circles, but that could change in a hurry once the 2020 football season finally gets underway in the Palmetto State.
One of the state's most undervalued athletes hails from an Upstate program that's been producing some talent as of late.
Southside head coach Jeremy West has seen Jalon Calhoun head to Duke and Braydon Bennett sign with Coastal Carolina, along with others, recently. The next up from Southside is rising senior athlete Semaj Scott, who may have even more speed and athleticism than the two alumni previously mentioned here.
That should be eye-popping, given that Calhoun made serious waves at Duke as a freshman and that Bennett was a track standout in high school.
Scott has contributed for Southside as a kick returner, defensive back, and wideout. His 19.6 yards per reception indicates that he has big-play potential at the high school level that could carry over to college, but he's also quite intriguing because of his size and profile as a defensive back.
As a corner, Scott has quick feet, can turn his hips, and also possesses nice recovery speed to break on the football. He falls into the category that so many in the state have this spring and summer in that, had he gotten the chance to work out in front of college coaches in camp settings, he would likely have some offers to his credit.
PalmettoPreps.com will be closely tracking Scott's progress this season, and so will college coaches.
