A pair of 6-7 forwards are the latest additions to the 2013-14 Olney Central College men's basketball team. Rontavius
McClure, a two-sport standout from Northwestern High School in Rock
Hill, S.C., and Kevin Rowell, an All-Stater from Marion (S.C.) High
School, inked letters of intent recently to play for the Blue Knights
next season.
After catching 86 passes for 1,090 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior
on the gridiron, McClure averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, 2.4 blocks,
2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game last winter for the Northwestern
Trojans.
McClure, a 2012 first-team All-State wideout, had football offers from
Marshall and Appalachian State while also receiving interest from
Clemson, North Carolina and South Carolina. He helped guide Northwestern
to a runner-up finish in the Class 4A Division II playoffs, thus
getting a late start on the hardwood, and played in the prestigious
Shrine Bowl game in mid-December at Spartanburg, S.C.
Rowell averaged a double-double (17.4 points and 12.7
rebounds) to go with four assists and 2.5 steals per game during his
senior campaign for Marion, home of former Blue Knights Deonte Johnson
and Joe Wright.
He was an All-State first-team selection and played in the North/South All-Star Game as well as the City vs. State Classic.
