One 2016 player that I had a chance to watch this off season was Lugoff-Elgin's Gunnar Catoe. While he is not the physical stature of many of the big-time prospects that we promote, this is a kid that, as a coach, you definitely want on your team.
At 5'6, 150lbs, Catoe does not grab your attention with his physical presence in the "eye ball test". But when he starts working out in drills and going one on one with the other players he definitely stands out as one of the better athletes in any camp that he attends.
Catoe runs a 4.5 40 yard dash and a 4.04 shuttle, with a 35 inch vertical jump. He's got a 215 bench and 360 squat which are very good marks for his size/weight. Last season, he played in the secondary and had 24 solo tackles with 48 assists. He had a forced fumble and 10 PBU's. He played sparingly at WR and caught 2 passes.
He trained with QB1 Performance this off-season and was always one of top performers in camp. What struck me about Gunnar is his competitiveness; he goes full speed all of the time and was never outmatched in his work ethic in camps.
This Summer, he's had a chance to move to the quarterback position some in practice. I look for him to be used in several places for the Demons, as he is versitile to play several positions and will make an impact at each one.
He attended several camps this Summer, including the QB1 camps, Furman, South Carolina, Wofford, Coastal, North Greenville, and Charleston Southern.
