In the latest edition of PalmettoPreps.com's "Inside the Film Room" feature, we're diving into one of the state's top overall athletes in Florence (South Carolina) Wilson's Zayshaun Rice.
Wilson plays quarterback for Wilson and turned in a strong statistical season in 2019 for the Tigers. That performance led to him picking up his first offer from South Carolina State back in January, and he was named as the Florence Morning-News Football Player of the Year.
As a junior, he put up a 65 completion rate, passed for 2,495yds and 29 TDs while adding nearly 800 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground. He's also an excellent student with a quality GPA.
As a quarterback, Rice can indeed participate in designed runs and gives Wilson a presence in throwing the ball on the move; he hit open receivers on the sprint-out or escape from trouble and gain yardage with his legs.
Rice looks for the deep ball often on film, and he shows the ability to put it downfield accurately with touch on most occasions.
While Wilson has also privately trained as a quarterback in the offseason and shows an intriguing skill set at that position, we are similarly intrigued by him as a wide receiver or running back prospect because of size and athletic profile. He shows ample athleticism to make that a possibility. For college coaches, this is a player that you can take as an athlete, at a specific position, or as a quarterback. The fact that he is more than capable of doing any of those and excelling only increases his value.
