Name: Daniel Thompson
School: Boiling Springs
Position: QB
Graduation Year: 2015
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 200
Notes: Will be a fourth year guy in 2014 season; younger brother of USC quarterback Dylan Thompson, who most colleges also laid off. Just as I felt Dylan was a DI caliber guy, I think Daniel is better at this stage of his career. He doesn't have the height and that will be the hurdle he has to overcome in proving himself to recruiters.
On the hoof: Excellent under pressure; able to work the pocket and has very good velocity on the ball. Is not easily rattled.
On film: Strong arm, very accurate; protects the ball well. He works the pocket better than any other quarterback in the state. Is able to extend plays with his mobility and find the open receivers.
Needs work on: There is not a lot that this kid needs work on. He's one of the best in the state; if he were just two inches taller, he'd have four stars just like Kelly Bryant of Wren.
Ranking: Productive guy and he was my No. 3 overall QB as a junior. Coming into this season, he's right there at the top with Bryant in my QB rankings.
We have to take into account the caliber of competition he plays against, which is high in the Region II and Class 4A.
Overall? I believe this kid is a definite FBS caliber player; I see him as the Russell Wilson type of guy who can get the job done despite the nay sayers who point to his height. Whether that turns out offers, we shall see; right now, he's got DII offers on the table and he's a DII All-American in my book; but I think he can play at a higher level if given the chance. I said the same thing about his brother five years ago.
Early Ranking? I see him as a definite three-star in the 5.4 range and possibly higher.
